Dickinson, Elizabeth (Robert) Sage, and James (Georgia Lee Hamer) Lucas. She graduated from Brownstown High School and attended Purdue University.

Virginia was also preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, John C. Elstrod, whom she had attended school with since childhood. They were married on May 30, 1948 after his service in the Navy. They have 6 children, Gloria (Larry) Adams of Franklin, Jacqueline Fox of Columbus, John Paul (Deronda) Elstrod of Benton, AR, Mary (Mark) Branigin of Edinburgh, IN, Beth Ann Gater of Morgantown, IN, and Theresa (Aaron) Prather of Cordova, TN. Virginia enjoyed sewing, crocheting, crossword puzzles and staying active. She and her husband volunteered at the Columbus Regional Hospital for some years. They bowled with Cummins Retirees, and were active in Two Worlds Condo Association. After retirement they enjoyed numerous winters in Port Aransas, Texas. Together they made quilts for all six of their children. Virginia also crocheted blankets for grandchildren and always made nice gifts for her grandkids to give their teachers at Christmas. While living at Silver Oaks, she enjoyed playing cards with her children and grandchildren and was notorious for winning.
