Lora E. Wehmeier

Lora E. Schlehuser Wehmeier, 99, passed from this life at 8:15 p.m. Monday, August 12, 2024, at Silver Oaks Health Campus, Columbus, Indiana. Lora was born on February 10, 1925, in Cortland, Indiana, and was the only child of William and Clara Boxman Schlehuser. She married Charles K. Wehmeier, on December 7, 1947. He preceded her in death on April 14, 2007. Lora was the quintessential hard working farm wife. She was a long time member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, active in many church organizations, including Christian Fellowship, Sewing Circle, The Couples Club, and ongoing Bible Study. She was a 4-H Club leader, a Precinct Committee Chair for the Democratic Party, and a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Philanthropic Sorority, Home Ec Club and Bridge Club. Lora and her husband traveled to 49 states in their RV and she is well known for the large vegetable garden she tended, admired by many passersby.

Survivors include her children, Cindy (John) Maxwell of Indianapolis, William (Rita) Wehmeier and LuAnn (Mark) Davis, both of Columbus; grandchildren, Jack and Joe Maxwell, Blake and Macy Wehmeier, and Adam Davis; and two great-grandchildren, Charles R. Davis and Adelaide Davis.

The funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday, August 16, 2024 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 719 5th Street, Columbus, Indiana, 47201, with Pastor Tim Carter officiating. Family and friends may gather for a time of visitation from 10:00 a.m. to time of the service at the church.

She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Garland Brook Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
