COLUMBUS
Rex V. McCue, 90, of Columbus, Indiana, entered his eternal home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
Rex was born on September 29, 1933, in Monroe County, Kentucky, to Esker McCue and Roma Proffitt McCue. His family moved to Columbus when he was three years old and Rex attended State Street Grade School. Rex graduated from high school in Gamaliel, Kentucky, in 1951 and from Tri-City Barber College in Louisville, Kentucky.
Rex married the love of his life, Charlene Stoneking McCue, on July 23, 1955. Rex and Charlene celebrated 62 years of marriage until Charlene’s passing on August 1, 2017. Rex and Charlene were blessed to travel to all 50 states and many national parks.
Rex was a barber in Columbus for 50 years. He worked in several barber shops, and owned the Palace Barber Shop in Holiday Center and Master Cut Barber Shop in Clover Center. He enjoyed the opportunity to get to know his clients and especially enjoyed giving first haircuts. Rex touched many lives during his 50 years of barbering.
Rex became a Christian as a young adult and never wavered from his faith. He was a prayer warrior for his family. Rex was a member of Memorial Baptist Church. He loved to study the Bible and he enjoyed woodworking, golf, watching auto racing and Big Ten basketball. Rex’s life was characterized by his great love for his family and his wisdom, insight, loyalty, and love. He was a kind, generous, and genuine man who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Rex was the loving father of Connie (Hugh) Daugherty and Steve (Donna) McCue. His family was very important to him and he deeply loved his four grandsons and his granddaughter: Matthew (Amanda) Lahr, Andrew Lahr, Jacob (Monica) McCue, Levi (Katie) McCue, and Anna (Thomas) Rabaey. Rex felt blessed to have eleven great grandchildren: Joey, Eliza, Helena, River, Fox, Meadow, Addison, Brooklyn, Bailey, Ethan, and Elijah.
In addition to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Rex is survived by his sister, Barbara (Bob) Turner, his sister-in-law, Nancy (Bob) Purvis, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Rex was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene, his parents, his brother William Rondel McCue and his two sisters, Reva McCue Hardy and Kathleen McCue Lee.
A celebration of Rex’s life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at the Four Seasons Chapel at 1901 Taylor Road, with Rev. Karen Hargett officiating. Friends and family may call from 9:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the celebration of life. In keeping with his wishes, cremation is planned and private inurnment next to his wife, Charlene, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorials given in Rex’s name to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, Four Seasons employee fund, or Memorial Baptist Church.
