Bartholomew County residents could dispose of hard-to-recycle items like car tires, propane gas tanks and refrigerators during America Recycles Day at the Bartholomew County Recycling Center.

A meteor traveled east through the night sky over Columbus at about 7:05 p.m., according to witnesses, including Columbus Municipal Airport operator Mark Gentry. The Columbus Police Department received about 20 calls in 10 minutes about the flying fireball.

M. Thomas Harrison of Columbus, director of facilities at Cummins Engine Co., received the Don E. Gibson Memorial Award for outstanding architectural work at the Indiana Society of Architects Convention. The award was presented annually to a person in Indiana who was not an architect, but contributed to the advancement of the profession.
