HOPE — Following a cold shooting night in a three-point loss to Waldron on Friday, a fast start was just what Hauser needed in Saturday’s girls basketball matchup with Traders Point Christian.
The Jets jumped out to a 10-0 lead and let the Knights hang around in the first half before pulling away in the second half for a 65-36 victory.
“After a tough Friday night game, in that first half, we were able to kind of rotate everybody into the game and let everybody get a good run,” Hauser coach Kyle Shipp said. “It’s always a nice way to bounce back after a tough loss with a win, and we have to be happy about a win.”
Senior Norah Berkenstock scored the first eight points for the Jets (3-2) and finished with a career-high 23. She hit her first three shots and finished 10 of 21 after struggling through a 4 for 18 shooting night on Friday.
“Compared to last night not really shooting very well, I thought it just got us off to a good start,” Berkenstock said. “I think that I played more flexible and kept myself out of foul trouble, and we really worked the ball around to get good shots. I think it was really good and will get us going.”
June Berkenstock scored 10 points, and Abby Manley added nine for Hauser. Chloie Phelps led the Jets with six rebounds.
Hauser turned the ball over only six times and forced 19 turnovers from Traders Point.
“I thought we shot the ball a lot better, especially early, and then I thought we took care of the ball a little bit better in the second half,” Shipp said. “I thought we ran our zone offense pretty efficiently at times. At times, we got a little shot happy, but for the most part, I thought we did a nice job finding good looks and converting on those.”
