She accepted an elementary school teacher position in Long Beach CA On her way out to CA she detoured to Mexico with two other women friends. She apparently had a marvelous adventure since her stories entertained us for decades.

After a couple of years she met her future husband, Garris, also a Hoosier. They were married in June 1957. Lois then earned a master’s degree in education from Long Beach State University. She taught elementary grades throughout her career as well as serving as a math specialist to all elementary grades of the school district. She retired in 1989 and moved back to Indiana in 1992. They decided to settle in Columbus and bought a house in 1994. Lois began traveling after the death of her husband in 2008. She enjoyed cruising and traveling around the United States, Italy, Australia, and particularly Egypt on her 90th birthday. Lois also enjoyed history, (she was a member of the Yorktown Historical Society), cats, antiques, ( especially Ball jars), and knitting. She had a great sense of humor and love of life. She lived life on her terms and will be terribly missed.
