The Bartholomew County Health Department was provided with a $166,489 grant from a program through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to increase immunization rates. Bartholomew County was one of 16 Indiana counties chosen to participate in the program.
1999
Eleven new clowns graduated from a 10-week clowning course in order to perform for Clowns for Christ, a Columbus-based program to bring gospel messages to nursing homes, hospitals, church functions and schools. The graduates included Bones, Poor Pitiful Pearl, Hershey, Gracie, Chuckles, Violet, LaLa, Templeton, Chloe, Skittles and Buddy.

Bartholomew County grain farmer Gilman O’Neal was elected president of the Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts, Inc. (IASWCD) during the 32nd annual IASWCD conference at Purdue University.
