The Bartholomew County Humane Society held an open house for its new shelter on East County Road 200S. The event featured a blessing for the shelter’s animals by a local minister.
1999
Hauser High School graduate and Hartsville native Charles Fields was selected as one of the 120 candidates to be interviewed and evaluated to participate in NASA’s next astronaut candidate program. Fields was a research staff engineer for Hughes Raytheon Laboratories.

The Prairie Promenaders Square Dance Club had its annual Christmas Dance at the Indiana University Purdue University Extension Building at Bakalar Municipal Airport. Larry Weekly was the caller, and several guest callers attended.
