There’s plenty of local sports to check out over the holidays

While most people are enjoying spending time with family over the holidays, if one is in the mood to watch some local basketball, all eight Bartholomew County teams are in action the next few days before the calendar turns to 2025.

The Columbus East and Hauser girls basketball teams will not be traveling far. The Jets are hosting a tournament that starts Thursday and runs until Saturday. Hauser’s first game is at noon Thursday with Greenwood Christian Academy, while East plays Southwestern (Hanover) at 2 p.m. Thursday. The consolation games will begin at noon Friday, and the semifinals begin at about 4 p.m. the same day. The placement-round games will begin at noon Saturday, with the championship set for 6 p.m..

The East boys basketball team will play in the Greenwood Tournament on Saturday. Triton Central plays Greenwood at 10 a.m. in one semifinal, and the Olympians take on Yorktown in other semifinal at noon. The losers will play for third place at 5 p.m., with the winners meeting in the championship at 7 p.m.

The Hauser boys basketball team will play in the Switzerland County Tournament Friday and Saturday. The Jets will face East Central in the opening round at 9:30 a.m. Friday. The consolation and semifinal games will take place later that day. The placement-round games will begin at noon Saturday.

The Columbus North girls basketball team will play in the Scottsburg Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The first game for the Bull Dogs will be on Friday against Bedford North Lawrence. The semifinal round will begin at 6 p.m. later that day. The consolations rounds and the placement games will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The North boys basketball team will play in the Batesville Tournament on Friday. The Bull Dogs will meet Roncalli in the second semifinal at 11:45 a.m., following Mt. Vernon and Batesville in the first semifinal. The losers of the semifinal games will play for third place at 6 p.m., with the winners playing in the championship at 7:45 p.m.

The Columbus Christian boys basketball team will play in the Indiana/Kentucky Shootout at Trimble County (Kentucky) Friday and Saturday. The Crusaders will face Eminence (Kentucky) at 3 p.m. Friday and Trimble County at around 8:30 p.m. Friday before closing with Carroll County (Kentucky) at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Columbus Christian girls basketball team will play Riveton Parke and Eminence (Indiana) at 4:30 and 7 p.m. Friday, both at Eminence.

There’s wrestling, as well. The North and East girls wrestling teams will compete in the Whiteland Classic at 9 a.m. Saturday. The Bull Dog boys wrestling team will compete in the two-day Evansville Mater Dei Invitational at 10 a.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday. The Olympian boys wrestling team will compete in the Al Smith Invitational in Mishawaka at 10 a.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday.

The North girls wrestlers also will compete in the New Albany Christmas Tournament beginning at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
