New speed limit to be in effect for I-69, I-465 southside interchange Wednesday

INDIANAPOLIS — Speed limit changes are planned for all sections of Interstates 69 and 465.

On or after Wednesday signs will be placed with the new speed limit of 55 mph for all sections of I-69 and I-465. Intermittent lane and speed reductions will be possible along the I-69/I-465 corridors for the safety of crews during the final cleanup/closeout stages of the project, according to an Indiana Department of Transportation project update.

In other related business, Epler Avenue between I-69 and Old State Road 37 is closed for intersection reconstruction on the southside. This intersection is expected to open to traffic in February, depending on weather conditions, INDOT officials say.

The Epler Avenue and Belmont Avenue intersection will remain open during this closure, according to INDOT.

The detour route for trucks follows Southport Road, Bluff Road, Edgewood Avenue and Kopetsky Drive, with an alternate truck route following Edgewood Avenue and U.S. 31. Passenger vehicles and local traffic can follow Southport Road to Harding Street to I-465, or Southport Road to Harding Street to Banta Road to Concord Street, INDOT officials say.
