Letter: America is getting what it voted for

Welcome to the Golden Age of America.

Voting Americans spoke, the dog caught the car, and the former inmates are back running the asylum.

Well, we get what we pay for. Elon Musk sure did. Musk gave the Trump campaign $270 million, but that is in keeping with the MAGA philosophy of selecting people based solely on merit. I am sure he expects no favors.

Now it’s time to “dance with who brung us.”

Watching the new president’s coronation-like inauguration has been a painful and bewildering process and leaves me troubled, even without the Kid Rock piece.

But first, don’t tell me MAGA is the party of law and order. The new president pardoned 1,500 convicted Jan. 6 rioters, even violent offenders. Beating a cop with a fire extinguisher or blasting them with bear spray is just MAGA free speech now. What an outrageous blow to our justice system. The officers injured while protecting the Capitol have been betrayed by their own countrymen. Convince me otherwise.

Those paroled proud guys, Trump’s new J6 Militia, are now beholden to him and ready to answer his calls for revenge.

The richest people in America with huge government contracts, conflicts of interest, and influence over Trump were seated foremost on his inauguration stage. Nobody voted for Musk, but he will deeply impact our lives as the billionaire-led Department Of Government Efficiency cuts essential services for common folk to cover Trump’s massive tax cuts for his obscenely rich friends.

The sheer level of vitriol for America in Trump’s inauguration speech was shocking. He whined that everything in America that came before him was rigged, foolish, stupid, treasonous, and weak. The world knows how wrong that is.

He showed zero respect for any of the former presidents in attendance, being spiteful and petty towards previous administrations. Simple decorum has become too “woke.”

Trump said God sent him to MAGA. However, evidence shows he is not religious, and he only acts that way to gain favor with the oddly not-very-Christian right. Instead of selling Bibles with his name on the cover, he should open one and read Jesus’ “Sermon on the Mount.”

The confirmation hearings for his spectacularly unqualified and dangerous cabinet members are disturbing and creepy. But seriously, who of us has not been pulled off a stripper stage, drunk to the gills, at a business outing we organized?

The blitzkrieg of executive orders Trump issued, like eliminating birthright citizenship, eliminating government drug price negotiations, starting mass deportations and setting violent criminals free are cruel, mean spirited and divisive, as intended.

People say this election was about the price of gas and groceries. Oddly, none of these actions address those issues.

I anticipate rights of women and minorities will be further eroded. Climate change impacts will worsen as the world floods and/or incinerates around us. Our economy will crash when hard-working immigrants are deported. Retribution will take center stage.

Now let’s party like it’s 1955!
