Redevelopment adds new members, elects officers

The Columbus Redevelopment Commission swore in members and elected officers for 2025 during their meeting on Monday.

The commission has five voting members— three appointed by the mayor and two by the city council. The appointments are made annually and join BCSC liaison Jason Major, District 1, and Councilor Grace Kestler, D-at-large, who are non-voting members of the commission.

Redevelopment Commission President Al Roszczyk, appointed by city council, is returning to the role for the time being as the council searches for a replacement.

Roszczyk has served as president for eight years but plans to step away to focus on his health once a replacement is found, according to a letter he sent to Council President Frank Miller, R-District 4, and provided to The Republic.

Another city council appointment is returning member Shannon McDonald.

Trena Carter and Cynthia Boll, two other returning members, were elected as vice president and secretary for the commission.

Kyle Hendricks, who had been on the commission for six years, said he accepted a new job that takes away from the time he previously devoted to the commission. At the start of the meeting Mayor Mary Ferdon read a proclamation that declared Jan. 27 “Kyle Hendricks Day” in the City of Columbus.

Replacing Hendricks is former Columbus Mayor Jim Lienhoop.
