Carol Jean Beeker

Carol Jean Beeker, 83, passed away Wednesday morning February 5th at Our Hospice Center in Columbus, Indiana.

Carol was born on January 2, 1942 to the late George and Hazel (Reichow) Helsel in Toledo, Ohio. Growing up, she enjoyed learning the piano and going to Sunday school and church. After graduating high school ranking 8th in her class, she went to business school. After graduating from business college, she worked at Owens Illinois in Toledo.

Carol’s cousin Mary married and moved down to Columbus, Indiana. She visited her cousin many times who eventually introduced her to her future husband, Harry. They got married on April 18, 1970.

Carol used her secretarial skills at many places in Columbus: Cummins, USBPI, Columbus Regional Hospital, numerous churches, and other various places in temporary capacities. She stayed at home and took care of her daughters as they grew up. She enjoyed polka dancing, playing the piano and organ for herself and for church services, and participating in Bible Study Fellowship. She took great pride in attending all the various activities sporting events that her grandchildren participated in, especially continuing her love of baseball. She taught bible school and Sunday school classes at First Lutheran Church. She also volunteered in classrooms in BCSC as well as at Love Chapel.

She is survived her husband of 54 years, daughters Michelle (Nathan) Wager of Columbus and Melissa Beeker of Brownsburg, grandchildren Caitlin and Zachary Wager, and brother Herb Helsel of Jacksonville, Florida.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, February 8th from 10-11am with the funeral at 11am with Pastor Larry Isbell officiating. The visitation and funeral will be held at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral home. Carol will be laid to rest at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church and Love Chapel in Columbus.
