COLUMBUS
David T. Brown, a lifelong member of the Columbus community and a devoted family man, passed away at his home on January 29, 2025. Born on September 22, 1947, to the late Norman L. and Norma J. Bohall Brown, David’s life was one of service, loyalty, and dedication.
An Army veteran of the Vietnam War, David returned to Columbus, where he served 30 years with the Columbus Police Department?15 years as a uniformed officer and 15 as a detective. After retiring in 1999, he worked as an internal investigator for Indiana Family and Social Services, later serving part-time with the Sheriff’s Department and on the Merit Board before fully retiring.
David is survived by his children, Michelle R. Brown of Columbus and Jeff (Kesha) Brown of Florida; his grandchildren, Jordan (Christen) Brown and Hannah (Peyton) Colville of Washington, Carter and Jayden Brown of Florida; and his great-granddaughter, Roslyn Colville. He also leaves his beloved sister, Deborah (Tony) Eden; his niece, Amy (Greg) Kinker; his sister, Angie (Gene) Dilkes; brother, Nick (Valery) McIntosh; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Mike Brown and William McIntosh, and his stepfather, Bill McIntosh. He also leaves dear friends Jim and Nancy Lowry; Kelly, Palak, and Bodhi Patel; Randy Aspenson; and many others.
David earned his associate degree from Indiana University while working multiple jobs and raising a family. He was a devoted IU and New Orleans Saints fan. He was also a member of Moose Lodge No. 398 and the Fraternal Order of Police.
Memorial visitation will be held March 1, 2025 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. at Barkes, Weaver, and Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street, with a tribute from 2:30 to 3:00 p.m. In memory of David, memorial contributions may be made to Shop with a Cop or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
