Columbus North’s Hadassah Hurt, Jennings County’s Maddie McIntosh and South Decatur’s Makayla Somers have been selected to the Hoosier Basketball Coaches Association Girls All-District 3 team, which is open to seniors.
The trio have the potential to be selected to play in the All-Star Classic that will be announced at a later date.
Also, the HBCA announced its Girls Underclass All-District Teams. North sophomores Kaylie Harmon and Avery Johnson and junior Kenna Conrad and Jennings junior Mollie Ernstes were selected to the All-District 3 squad.
North to open football season with Whiteland
Columbus North will open its 2025 football season at home against Whiteland. The Warriors are replacing Decatur Central on the schedule.
The Bull Dogs will play at Carmel in Week 5. The Greyhounds are replacing Bishop Chatard.
The rest of North’s schedule and all of Columbus East’s schedule remain the same as last year, except that the teams will visit schools they hosted last season and host schools they visited last year.
Zimmerman headed to Rushville
Former Jennings County and South Decatur football coach Rick Zimmerman has been named the head coach at Rushville.
Zimmerman has been an assistant at Seymour the past three years.
Cougars to compete in regional
The South Decatur girls basketball team will play in a Class A regional game against Oldenburg Academy at Southwestern (Shelby).
The tipoff is at 1 p.m. Saturday.
North’s Kak selects IWU
Columbus North senior defensive end Dumo Kak has committed to continue his football career at Indiana Wesleyan.
Kak recorded 46 tackles, including 13 for losses, and five sacks and had two fumble recoveries last fall.
Campbell to sign with Anderson
Hauser will host a college signing ceremony for senior Haylin Campbell, who will be playing softball at Anderson next year.
The ceremony will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the school’s auditorium.
Boys basketball draws coming up
The boys basketball sectional pairings are right around the corner. The draw will be at 6 p.m. Feb. 23 and livestreamed at ihsaatv.org
Columbus East is host of a Class 4A sectional with Columbus North, Franklin, Whiteland and East Central. Milan is hosting a Class A sectional with Hauser, Trinity Lutheran, Crothersville, Jac-Cen-Del, Oldenburg Academy, Rising Sun and Shawe Memorial.
