Job opportunities, access to higher education, diversity and uniqueness were a few of the best qualities of Columbus listed by participants in a “Thriving Community, Thriving State” roundtable forum held at the Irwin Conference Center.

2000

Parkside Elementary School academic challenge teacher Rita Bass was named Teacher of the Year by the Indiana Association for the Gifted. Bass was the first-ever recipient of the award, which was planned to be presented annually at the organization’s state conference.

Columbus North High School juniors Janice Elwood, Judy Weerts, Cindy Everitt and Any Nussbaum were nominated to participate in the National Council of Teachers of English Achievement Awards in Writing.
