The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will donate 40,000 pounds of food to Love Chapel Food Pantry next week.
The semi-tractor trailer delivering this donation is scheduled to arrive at the pantry at 9 a.m. on Monday.
Youth and members from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be assisting volunteers at Love Chapel to unload food from the truck. Church Public Affairs Representative Ernest Lifferth said the donation will consist of items including canned goods, pastas, peanut butter and items for dental needs.
Under the guidance of the Ecumenical Assembly of Bartholomew County Churches, the Love Chapel Food Pantry provides programs for a Christian response to the community’s spiritual, emotional, social and physical needs. This includes but is not limited to emergency medical needs, food and shelter. T
Church officials said in a press release that the need to heed the Savior’s call remains as urgent as ever, as economic challenges following the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing political issues have only heightened the need to address food insecurity.
Executive Director of the Ecumenical Assembly of Bartholomew County Churches Kelly Daugherty said the donation serves as a perfect example of sharing love with their neighbor and is a tremendous outpouring of love. Lifferth said the last time they gave a large donation to Love Chapel was in 2021, but he said the church would like to do smaller donations on a regular basis.
“I’m really happy that we could do this to help our community and individuals. We just don’t know some of the challenges people face and it’s just nice to have someone stand by you when you’re going through a storm, whether it’s holding an umbrella for you or providing some sort of encouragement and this gives us an opportunity to help support the community,” Lifferth said. “The Savior went around doing good, and we’re striving to do the same thing.”
