North rally comes up just short at 3A No. 6 Roncalli

INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus North scored seven runs in the final two innings Tuesday, but Class 3A No. 6 Roncalli held on for a 9-7 softball victory.

The Royals built a 6-0 lead with single runs in the second, third and fourth and three in the fifth. The Bull Dogs (0-2) plated three in the sixth, but Roncalli got the three back in the bottom of the sixth before North came through with four in the seventh.

Payton Morris went 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs, and Bailee Scruggs went 2 for 4 with a double, a home run and two RBIs. Lily Retz also had two RBIs.

Scruggs allowed six runs, but only three earned, over the first five innings before giving way to Morris in the sixth.
