North edges Center Grove to open season

Columbus North pulled out a pair of three-set wins Tuesday to open its girls tennis season with a 3-2 win against Center Grove.

Aya Saad was leading Sloane Small 4-6, 6-0, 4-1 when Small retired. Grace Conner and Nino Akalaya beat Alejandra Arriz and Kate Obrzut 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles, and Annabelle Sun and Lizzie Bodart provided the deciding point with a 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-4 win against Ashley Embrey and Maggie Teed at No. 1 doubles.

The Bull Dogs’ Lucy Bergman fell to Kenna Harbin 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, and Ayane Umemura lost to Val Arriz 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
