COLUMBUS
Douglas R. “Doug” Dunn, passed from this life May 1, 2025, at his home. Doug was born on December 15, 1948, in Columbus, Indiana to Raymond E. and Florene I. Voss Dunn.
Doug proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army, a testament to his unwavering dedication and patriotism. After his military service, he continued to contribute his talents and industrious spirit to Reliance Electric, where he was a respected employee for 25 years.
An active and devoted member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Jonesville, he committed himself wholeheartedly to his faith community, serving as an Elder, a member of the Board of Finance, and a co-sexton of the church cemetery. He married Kay L. Abel Dunn, on July 10, 1971, at the very same church, was a cherished chapter in his life.
Doug’s zest for life shone through his numerous hobbies. From the great outdoors to the quiet of his woodworking shop, he embraced every moment with passion. A former hunter, fisherman, and avid bowler, Doug later found joy in the precision of woodworking and the excitement of cheering on Indiana University’s basketball and football teams. He also enjoyed attending all forms of racing including midget, sprint, Silver Crown, late model, NASCAR and of course the Indy 500. Doug and Kay attended the Indy 500 more than 40 times.
Doug leaves behind a legacy of love and memories, cherished by his beloved wife of 53 years, Kay, as well as his nieces Heather (Steven) Ping, Heidi (Jeremy) Kleffman, and Brandi (Derek) Hoene. His sister-in-law Rhonda Dunn, seven great-nieces and nephews, and two great-great-nieces also survive him. Doug is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Keith Dunn.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Jonesville with Reverend Matthew Jung officiating. Family and friends may gather for a time of visitation from 9:00 a.m. to time of service at the church.
Doug will be laid to rest at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Jonesville.
Full military honors will be provided by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund.
