EDINBURGH — It was a much stronger showing for Columbus North in Monday’s Conference Indiana championship at Timbergate Golf Course, but Bloomington South was too strong.
The Bull Dogs settled for third place with a 315. The Panthers won the title with 301. Terre Haute South finished second with a 313. Terre Haute North was fourth with a 327, Bloomington North was fifth with 328 and Southport was sixth with a 360.
Columbus North put two golfers on the All-Conference Team. Brady Schneider tied for second individually with a 2-over par 74. Bloomington South’s Carson Gady won the individual medalist with an even-par 72. The Panthers’ Owen Gerber tied Schnider for second with a 74.
“It was all right,” Schneider said about is round. “The goal coming in was to win it, and I fell short a little bit. I had a double (bogey) down the stretch and a bogey that kind of killed me. Other than that, I think I hit the ball really well. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season for sure.”
Austin Perry also made All-Conference for the Bull Dogs. He finished with a 5-over 77.
“I was happy with making All-Conference,” Perry said. “I left some shots out there today, but the end result coming in, I stlll had what my goal was, and 77 is not bad at all for me today.”
Reid Perry finished with an 81, and Ryder Allman had an 83 and Tyler Dillingham carded an 84 to round out the Bull Dog scoring.
“We improved over Saturday (in the Brownsburg Invitational at The Trophy Club), for sure. We shot 322 here last year and finished second; 315 this year and finished third,” North coach Doug Bieker said. “Certainly, it’s better at the top of the lineup. Those younger guys down toward the bottom, they’re figuring it out. I think when they do, we’ll be fine.
“Overall, I’m not disappointed. I’m happy with the effort,” he added. “The kids are working hard, and at this point in the year, that’s really all we can ask. I hope they continue to work hard until school ends, and when they have more time, there should be no excuses.”
