A change of plea hearing and jury trial date have been set for Tanner Vandeman, 24, Columbus, after an initial hearing in Bartholomew Superior Court 1 on Tuesday
In Bartholomew County, Vandeman is accused of two felonies, child exploitation and voyeurism, stemming from an incident earlier this month at Total Fitness, 3075 Middle Road, according to court filings.
A change of plea hearing has been set for 9:30 a.m. Aug. 18 and a jury trial was scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Sept. 9, according to court records. The initial hearing was conducted over video by the court.
Vandeman was arrested on May 14 for allegedly filming an 8-year-old girl while she was showering at a local gym.
According to previous reports, Vandeman told police in an interview with Columbus police officers that he had allegedly purchased a membership at the gym earlier that day. He allegedly went into the women’s locker room and took a shower, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Police officers allegedly found a cellphone and two GoPro cameras when they searched Vandeman at the scene. Vandeman said he allegedly recorded two females with a GoPro as they were showering in the stall next to him, the affidavit says.
Vandeman also faces two charges in Johnson Circuit Court for alleged voyeurism stemming from 2023, according to court documents. Police had been called for two separate alleged voyeurism incidents that had occurred within an hour of each other at Greenwood Park Mall’s Kohl’s and Forever 21’s stores, according to court documents.
In 2024, Vandeman was arrested in February of 2024 for voyeurism at a Marion County Kohl’s location. He entered into a plea agreement in February of this year and was later sentenced in April to a suspended 545-day jail sentence and one year probation in the Marion County case.
Prosecutors in Marion and Johnson County have moved to revoke bond in their respective cases. Warrants have also been issued for Vandeman’s arrest in both counties, according to court documents.
Vandeman remains in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $275,000 bond, according to jail records.
