Schneider, Bull Dogs top Olympians

Brady Schneider

It started off as a pheonomenal round for Brady Schneider by going 3-under on the front nine.

Although the Columbus North senior’s score dipped on the back nine, he finished with a 1-over par 73 to earn medalist honors and give the Bull Dogs a 308-345 boys golf victory over Columbus East Friday morning at Otter Creek.

“I played pretty well on the front. I was hitting it well,” Schneider said. “In a lot of these tournaments lately, I’ve been practicing really well and not performing well in the tournament, so it was good to execute that front nine really well. On the back nine, the wind picked it a little bit, so it was harder. For me, it was really fun. My best friend Carter (Greene) plays at East, so it was really good to play with him one last time my senior year. It was a lot of fun.”

Other scores for North Austin Perry with a 75, Joseph Perkins with a 78 and Reid Perry and Carter Battin each with an 82. Also for the Bull Dogs, Tyler Dillingham shot 83, Ryder Allman had a 92 and Owen Sullivan finished with a 96.

“Especially having an early morning tee time, the guys were waking up early and going to the golf course instead of school. It’s good to have Perkins back from injury. Schneider and Austin are doing what we expected them to do all year, so I think we’re moving in the right direction,” North coach Doug Bieker said. “The other guys are fighting for the last spot and pushing each other to get better. I think we’ll be good, so we’ll what happens after we come off the holiday weekend.”

For East, Greene led the way with an 82. Ethan Bumbalough shot 85, Mason Reeves finished with an 86 and Braxton Burton rounded out the team scoring with a 92. Also for the Olympians, Danny Coriden finished with a 95, Jackson Miller had a 96, Luke Rice carded a 97 and Lane Barringer added a 123.

“We’ve got to mentally reset,” East coach Keith VanDeventer said. “It’s that time of year where you need to start playing your best, and we had that going last week where we were playing a lot better. Unfortunately, we took a couple steps back today, and we’re going to have to play better.”
