Melvin Wayne Biehle

NORTH VERNON

Melvin Wayne Biehle, 89, of North Vernon, passed away at 11:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus.

Born July 10, 1935, in Jennings County, he was the son of the late Ernest and Ethel Mae (Skinner) Biehle. He married Rita Beineke on July 25, 1965, in Jackson County; she survives.

Melvin was a 1954 graduate of Vernon High School and served in the Army National Guard where he was a tank commander and qualified on rifle and pistol. He worked as an Engine Tester for Cummins Engine Company in Columbus for 45 years, retiring in 2001. Melvin was a member of the First Baptist Church in North Vernon and a former member of NRA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, being outdoors, tinkering, and square dancing.

Surviving with his wife, Rita of 59 years; is his son, Todd (Denise) Biehle of North Vernon; his daughter, Lisa (Jeff) Jaggers of Columbus; grandchildren, Jaycie (Chace) Hatton of North Vernon and Jared (Jackie Londono) Jaggers of Indianapolis; and great-grandchild, Cash Hatton of North Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service for Melvin will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at the First Baptist Church in North Vernon with the Rev. Brian Gilroy officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the Church. Burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home in honor of Melvin to the Alzheimer’s Association.
