2015

Lora Mar Lowrey, one of Columbus’ longest-serving crossing guards, retired after 48 1/2 years of serving the Columbus Police Department and Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. Students, staff and city officials planned a tribute to Lowrey at CSA Fodrea.

2000

The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department and Columbus Police Department began offering basic Spanish classes to their officers in response to the growing Hispanic population in the community. Columbus North High School Spanish teacher Gene Foldenauer taught the one-hour classes.

1975

The Irwin-Sweeney-Miller Foundation announced that more than $314,000 was donated to groups in the Columbus area in 1974, part of over $4.2 million dollars donated for the year in total.
