Vic Thompson

PLEASANT PRAIRIE, WI

Vic Thompson, 66, formerly of Pleasant Prairie, WI; Palatine, IL; and Columbus, IN; joined his heavenly family on February 15, 2025.

Born on November 28, 1958, in Columbus, IN, to Robert and Jeanne Thompson, Vic was a proud Purdue University engineering graduate and a member of Phi Delta Theta.

Vic’s greatest passion was his family. He married Patricia Thompson and had two beloved children, Robert Christopher and Ellen Josephine. Though an only child, he shared a sibling-like bond with his cousin, Ellen Butler. In 2007, he married Diane, and they shared a life filled with love and lasting memories.

Vic embraced life with joy and enthusiasm. He loved great food, drinks, and grilling year-round for family and friends. A fan of good times and good company, Vic enjoyed golf — especially the 19th hole — and was devoted to the Indy 500, Purdue sports Phi Delta Theta and the Chicago Cubs and Bears.

Music was another passion; he frequently attended concerts and was known for creating annual Christmas CDs for friends and family.

His love of the outdoors began at Gnaw Bone Camp, where he spent summers as both camper and counselor. That appreciation for nature carried through his life and inspired his work. He founded Thompson Renewables Consulting, combining his engineering expertise with a commitment to sustainability. Earlier in his career, he traveled the world with Motorola during the early days of cell phone development.

While living in Palatine, Vic and his close friend Lon Allison helped found Deergrove Covenant Church, a community that played a central role in his family’s life.

Vic will be remembered for his warmth, sense of humor, generosity, and deep devotion to those he loved. He lived life fully, made friends wherever he went, and left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held 12:00pm on June 8th at Upland Brewery in Columbus, IN.
