Looking Back – June 4

Gail Mauthe explains this scale model, a renovation of Donner Center, as the “absolute ideal” community recreational facility on June 4, 1975. The model of possible changes to the building was the final part of a project for Mauthe’s degree in architecture from Kansas State University.

2015

Gov. Mike Pence visited Hilex Poly, a plastic bag manufacturing company in North Vernon, and met with employees and management. Pence then met with local Republican Party members and other diners at the Grateful Grubb restaurant.

2000

Graduation ceremonies were held for Columbus North and Columbus East high schools, with the Classes of 2000 turning their tassels. North salutatorian Michael Radovanovic and East valedictorian Lindsay Wilkins each addressed the crowds at the ceremonies.

1975

Kansas State University at Manhattan student Gail Mauthe planned the renovation of Donner Center as part of her final semester thesis, which included blueprints and a Lilliputian scale model of the remodel.
