Editor’s note: This letter was received during the time a federal judge put a stay on the closing of the Job Corp Centers pending further court action.

Education is the engine that drives a nation’s industry. The attack on Harvard University by Trump, one of America’s prestigious institutions of higher learning, and the closing of Job Corps Centers by the Department of Labor, is counter-productive to the success of America’s industry.
The shutting down of Atterbury Job Corps, for what I suspect, is for ICE to use the facility as a temporary holding prison for detainees, is cruel and self-serving. It deprives Job Corps students, and potential students, of a three-in-one opportunity — to get a high school diploma, learn a trade, and a safe place to stay, while trying to achieve both, so that they too can become productive citizens.
