Smith takes 21st in NCAA shot put

Oklahoma’s Tucker Smith finished 21st in the shot put Wednesday night in the NCAA D-I track and field championships in Eugene, Oregon.

Smith, a junior from Columbus North, threw 59 feet, 11 inches (18.26 meters).

Wisconsin’s Jason Swarens, a Terre Haute South graduate who was the only shot putter to beat Smith in high school and was the 2019 Indiana State champion, won the NCAA title with a throw of 69-8 (21.23m) Wednesday. Smith finished second at state as a freshman that 2019 season, then after the COVID pandemic led to the cancellation of the 2020 season, Smith won state titles as a junior and senior in 2021 and 2022.
