Local man arrested on charges related to sexual abuse of 7-year-old

Berger

A local man is in jail following a months-long investigation into allegations that he sexually abused a child over a period of several years.

Columbus Police Department (CPD) detectives began investigating after the juvenile victim reported the abuse in January of this year, in which the juvenile alleged that Shaun Berger, 44, Columbus, had abused her on multiple occasions since the victim was age 7. Through the investigation, detectives gathered evidence and worked with the Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office to file formal criminal charges of:

  • Attempted Rape – Level 3 felony
  • Child Molestation – Level 4 felony
  • Child Seduction – Level 5 felony
  • Criminal Confinement – Level 5 felony
  • Voyeurism – Class A misdemeanor

After a warrant was issued for Berger’s arrest, officers began looking for him. They located his vehicle, but not him on June 10th. Investigators were able to speak to Berger over the phone, and he turned himself into officers later that day.

Berger remains in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of a $850,000 bond.
