Aviation Day was held at the Columbus Municipal Airport, with over 5,000 people exploring aircraft, children’s activities, airplane rides, aerial demonstrations and more. Several residents took rides in the open-door Huey helicopter, a symbol of the U.S. combat forces in Vietnam.
2000
The Columbus High School Class of 1930 held a 70th reunion party at Four Seasons Retirement Center, which drew 14 former classmates. The class’s former French teacher, Alta Redmond, attended the reunion as well.
1975
Bill Maze was elected as chief of the East Columbus Volunteer Fire Department, succeeding former chief Roger Johnson. James Green, former interim fire chief, was elected as assistant chief.
