Letter: Immigrant analogy was upside down

From: James P. Mayer

Clarence B. Leatherbury’s immigrant analogy is actually upside down. Imagine you leave your home for a week, and a group of immigrants tars your driveway, replaces your roof, and landscapes your yard – all better than it’s ever been done before.

Today’s immigrants want the same things that Mr. Leatherbury’s immigrant ancestors did: to work hard, provide for their families, and give their children better opportunities than they had – unless of course, Mr. Leatherbury is of Native American descent. In that case, immigrants invaded his home and never left.
