FRANKLIN — A GoFundMe has been set up by the family of the man killed in Sunday night’s car crash in Franklin.
At about 7:59 p.m. Sunday, Franklin Police officers were called to a serious vehicle collision at U.S. 31 and Commerce Drive involving two vehicles. Upon arrival, officers located both vehicles and immediately confirmed one fatality, according to a news release from the Franklin Police Department.
The driver of a gray Volkswagen passenger car — later identified as 29-year-old Braden Christopher Robertson — died at the scene, police say. Robertson moved to Franklin about a month ago and is originally from Fairfield, Illinois.
The second vehicle involved, a blue Jeep Compass, was driven by Jerrin Staker, 43, of Columbus. Witnesses at the scene reported that Staker appeared to be traveling at a high speed from the north when he struck Robertson’s vehicle. Drugs are suspected to be a factor in the crash, and Staker was taken to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment, according to police.
Kylee Robertson, the older sister of Braden Robertson, has created a GoFundMe to help with expenses in the wake of his death. The goal is currently $6,000, with more than $3,870 raised as of 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Her brother’s friends and family were “so proud of him for getting a new job and moving to a new area,” according to the GoFundMe’s description.
“He was happy. It only took one month to lose him entirely and shatter our world,” the description says.
“My family could not have expected this, and we are extremely unprepared,” the description continues. “Any donations will go towards my mom, sister, and I needing to take off work, funeral costs, getting his personal belongings home, and honoring Braden.”
Kylee Robertson added that she and her family are blessed to know that his dog Hank, who was his best friend, was not in the crash. They will be bringing Hank back to Illinois and “giving him the love and life Braden gave to him,” the description says.
