Dementia Friendly Bartholomew County, or DFBC, is launching a one-of-a-kind monthly Memory Cafe to support those living with dementia and their care partners. The Memory Café runs the second Friday of the month from 1 to 2 p.m. at Fairlawn Presbyterian Church, and will be holding a session this Friday.
“Fairlawn is a dementia friendly church, so it made sense to have the monthly Café here,” Fairlawn Presbyterian Church Pastor Elizabeth Kirkpatrick said in the release.
Anyone effected by dementia is welcome to attend. The Café on Friday will also include Pet Therapy, church officials said.
“Pet Therapy can be beneficial for individuals with dementia by improving mood, facilitating social interaction and reducing anxiety,” DFBC Advisory Council Chair Sue Lamborn said in the release.
The overall goal of the Café, according to Lamborn, is to offer a supportive environment where individuals with memory challenges and their care partners can socialize, enjoy activities and connect with others facing similar experiences.
