Looking Back – July 11

2015

Columbus’ Shirley Hilycord accepted a Purple Heart medal for her husband, Bob, which was posthumously awarded to him. Bob served with the Air Force in the Korean War and was a prisoner of war for 16 months.

2000

Columbus Parks and Recreation officials unveiled a plaque at Lincoln Park honoring the late Earl and Frances Dickey, pioneers of the Columbus Junior Baseball program. The plaque was placed near the backstop of Diamond 2 in the softball complex.

1975

Janet Sue Speer of North Vernon was crowned Jennings County 4-H Fair Queen in the Jennings County High School auditorium. First runner-up was Charlene Comstock and second runner-up was Susan Kirk.
