Prep sports notebook: Locals help South to shutout; Hauser baseball, North and East football players make All-State teams

Wasil made the team as a pitcher. The Jets’ Kam Blair, Lukas Christian and Peyton Bennett are honorable mention selections in Class A.

Schiefer featured on Digest cover

Columbus North senior offensive lineman Drew Schiefer is on the cover of the newly-released 2025 Indiana Football Digest as one of its “Prime Time 25.”

North senior quarterback Asher Ratliff is one of three quarterbacks on the Digest’s Class 6A preseason All-State team. The Bull Dogs are ranked No. 8 in 6A.

Columbus East senior wide receiver-defensive back-kick returner Keaton Lawson is an At-Large selection on the 5A preseason All-State squad. East senior wide-receiver-punter Kamden Shelley is on the 5A team as the punter.

IHSAA picks fall sectional hosts

Sectional host sites have been determined for the fall sports seasons.

Columbus East and Columbus North will play in a boys soccer sectional at Whiteland, a girls soccer sectional at Greenwood and a girls volleyball sectional at Franklin.

Hauser will host a Class A girls volleyball sectional. The Jets will play in a boys soccer sectional at Southwestern (Shelby) and a girls soccer sectional at Monrovia.

East, North and Hauser will compete in a girls golf sectional at Bloomington North (Cascades), a boys tennis sectional at Columbus North and a boys and girls cross-country sectional at Brown County. Columbus North will continue to host a boys tennis regional.

Former East assistant now at Tri

Braden Renbarger, who spent the past two years as an assistant coach at Columbus East, is the new boys basketball coach at Tri High School.

Renbarger is an Oak Hill graduate and the son of longtime Oak Hill coach Kevin Renbarger.

East, North to host kickoff events

The Columbus East and Columbus North athletics departments both will be hosting their annual kickoff events Aug. 9.

East will host its Tailgate Party from 4 to 7 p.m. in the south parking lot. There will be music, along with games and bounce houses for kids.

North will host its annual Blue and White Night beginning at 5 p.m. at Max Andress Field.
