Swifties, get ready for a new twist on Taylor. While Sarah Jessica may look and sing just like the world famous pop star, her shows are all hers, and she will be bringing her high energy to a North Vernon performance Aug. 9.
Jessica has been doing her Taylor Swift tribute shows for about 10 years now. While she does have a background in music, having played the piano her whole life, it was a headshot of hers that led to her Taylor Swift shows.
“… I’m typically a singer and dancer, and I had a headshot that I was passing out,” Jessica said. “Everyone kept telling me, ‘you look like Taylor Swift, that’s so weird,’ and I didn’t know a whole lot about her at the time, so the next thing I knew, I was doing look alike appearances and then that turned into singing some songs and then from there, I just ended up putting a whole show together and here we are.”
Outside of her Taylor Swift tributes, Jessica also fronts in a cover band called SJ and the Ruckus, which recently won Best Local Band in the Best of Vegas awards. She is also in a Spice Girls tribute, where she plays Ginger Spice.
Her Taylor Swift shows have taken her across the country, and she now has her sights set internationally. Though she has been all across the country, North Vernon is a location she cannot wait to return to. Her upcoming show at the Park Theatre Civic Center will mark her third visit to the venue, where she has loved to perform.
“This year, I think it’s going to be the band as usual and a backup singer, so that’ll be something they haven’t seen before,” Jessica said. “And we’ve got some different songs we’ve added since, you know, she’s got a new album out. It’s a little different every time, but it’s always changing.”
Jessica described her shows as like a party, where audience members are invited to sing and dance along. What sets her apart from other Taylor Swift tribute shows, she said, is that she plays the piano during her shows, something that is not often seen. She also shows creativity in her costuming, as she wears costumes that can be seen in Taylor Swift’s albums and music videos.
“… I would say just from Taylor, I mean, no one’s Taylor Swift. I just bring my own energy to it and I think people like the combination, just like my personality and Taylor’s music,” Jessica said. “I think it’s genuine, it comes across genuine, and audiences read that. So I think that genuine aspect and love for the music really comes through and that separates me from other (tributes).”
