NORTH VERNON
Betty Lorraine Casey, 92, of North Vernon, passed away at 5:40 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at the Covered Bridge Health Campus in Seymour.
Born January 10, 1933, in Lexington, she was the daughter of the late Laurel Coats and Cynthia (Middleton) Palmer. She married James E. Casey on December 28, 1962, in Scottsburg; he survives.
Betty was a 1956 graduate of Lexington High School, and a 1962 graduate of nursing school at the General Hospital in Indianapolis. She was a Registered Nurse and retired in 1985 as an Assistant Director of Nursing from Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus. Betty loved nursing, especially the OB delivering babies; she was also a nursing aid instructor, a Jennings County Visiting Nurse retiring for that in 1995. Betty was a member of the Hayden Baptist Church and the Nurses Association of Indiana. She enjoyed reading, sewing and being a nurse.
Surviving with her husband of 62 years, James; is her daughter, Alexandra (Brian) Wall of North Vernon; grandchildren, Cassie (Gregory) Lee and Clayton Motosicky, both of North Vernon, LaTisha (Chris) McDonald of Fountain Ridge, Kentucky, Jeff (Connie) Goldsmith of West Virginia, Allison Raley of Bargersville, and Annie (Daniel) Santos of Louisville, Kentucky; seventeen great-grandchildren, eight-great-great-grandchildren, and two great-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Teresa Dawn Thompson; brother, Ronald Coats; and grandson, Roy Goldsmith.
A funeral service for Betty will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at the Dove-Sharp &Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with Brad Herndon officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. The burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery in Lexington.
Memorials in honor of Betty may be made through the funeral home to the American Cancer Society for Breast Cancer, Hayden Historical Museum or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
