Falcons slip past Bull Dogs in opener

It wasn’t the best start to the season for the Columbus North girls golf team.

The Bull Dogs were plagued by the short game that would be a big factor in a 241-244 loss to visiting Perry Meridian Monday at Harrison Lake Country Club.

North was plagued by several three-putts and four-putts that cost them extra strokes.

“We missed putts, but this is our first match,” said first-year North coach Alexandria Weisheit, who replaced Scott Seavers as coach. “We’re green, we’re learning and I look forward to us improving from here on out.”

Harper Andresen carded the best round for the Bull Dogs by finishing with a 55. Pia Mantooth carded a 60, Caroline Crawford shot 62, Sophia Wills added a 67 and Bryn Emmitt had a 69.

“I would like to see us more of a competitive mindset of having to move on from the bad hole and moving forward, and I think having a drive to get the ball in the hole,” Weisheit said. “We’re not getting to hit perfect shots every time, but just finding a way to get the ball in the hole is going to be super important.”

North will have an off day of competition before hosting Jennings County Wednesday, also at Harrison Lake.
