Charlie Daniels performed for an estimated 5,000 people at Rock the Park in Mill Race Park, where he opened with his popular song “Southern Boy.” Daniels had previously performed at the Bartholomew County 4-H Fair in July 2000.

Hope’s Angela Halberstadt was a delegate-at-large at the Miss Teen All-American Pageant in Miami, Florida. Halberstadt was a sophomore at Columbus East High School.

Randy Kirk and Robert Burnett, both 17, were winners of the Handball Supergraphics Contest, sponsored by the Columbus Arts Guild and Columbus Parks and Recreation Department. They boys’ graphic designs would be featured on the handball courts at Lincoln Park.
