
Some of about 45 youths and adults from the Columbus area board a bus on Aug. 18, 1975, headed for a day at the Indiana State Fair. The all-day trip for disabled children from the area was sponsored by the local chapter of the Easter Seal Society and the Town and Country Citizens Band Radio Club.

Dogs mad a splash at the annual Bark in the Park/End of Summer Doggie Swim at Donner Aquatic Center, with a record turnout of nearly 200 dogs in attendance.
2000
Jim Turner, district manage of Cinergy/PSI, was named the campaign chairman of United Way of Bartholomew County’s 2000/2001 campaign. Al Roszczyk, senior vice president of Irwin Union Bank, was named vice chairman and chairman of 2000’s Week of Caring.
1975
The oldest diesel engine fire truck in the United States, located at Columbus Fire Station No. 3, was placed out of commission, but was still capable of pumping 1,000 gallons of water a minute. The truck was built in 1938 by Harry C. Stutz and Cummins Engine Co.
