SEYMOUR — A coordinated law enforcement operation Monday involving the FBI, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations, Seymour Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office led to the arrest of 11 illegal immigrants in the Jackson County area, according to a news release from the FBI.
These arrests targeted individuals who had already been charged with or convicted of various crimes or who had unlawfully entered the United States.
This effort is part of an ongoing initiative to remove dangerous offenders from communities and strengthen public safety.
The operation’s success was the result of extensive coordination, planning and intelligence sharing among federal and local partners, police report. By combining investigative resources and enforcement capabilities, authorities were able to identify, locate and apprehend individuals who posed a significant threat to the community or were in violation of federal and state law.
“Individuals who are unlawfully in this country and who commit violent crimes pose a serious threat to our communities,” said FBI Indianapolis Special Agent in Charge Timothy J. O’Malley. “Working with our federal and local partners and removing these individuals from our neighborhoods protects Hoosier families and reinforces our shared commitment to uphold the law.”
Those arrested had been charged with or convicted of violent crimes including narcotics trafficking, sexual battery, child molesting, domestic violence, strangulation and possession of numerous illegal weapons. One individual had previously been deported five times.
“This was not a sweep, nor did it involve schools or other sensitive locations. The focus was solely on removing dangerous offenders to protect the safety of our residents,” said Seymour Police Department Chief Greg O’Brien. “Public safety remains our top priority, and this operation reflects our ongoing commitment to keeping our neighborhoods safe.”
Those taken into custody include: Maria Hernandez, Ricardo Bo-Choc, Vicente Hernandez-Hernandez, Jose Chub-Bo, Alfredo Juan Bartolome, Petorona Sebastian Gaspar, Juan Sebastian Miguel, Jose Juna Oliverio Gasper, Gerino Gomez Velazquez, Arturo Perez Morales and Arturo Perez Maldonato.
Their ages and hometowns were not released.
The FBI and its federal and state law enforcement partners will continue to locate and arrest violent criminals who threaten the safety of our communities.
