You’ve heard of fundraisers, but what about roof raisers?

On Sept. 5, Brian Hannasch, former CEO of Alimentation Couche-Tard, will be participating in Turning Point’s annual roof sit in, titled Hannasch on the House, to raise funds and awareness for domestic violence survivors. Starting at 8 a.m., he will ascend onto the roof of NexusPark, where he will stay until he reaches his fundraising goal or until 8 p.m.

Those on the ground can vote with their dollars to keep him on the roof longer or get him down, Turning Point Grants and Communications Manager Maddie Hatchett said.

“… so there’s kind of two competing buckets this year,” Hatchett said. “We did that last year as well, so it’s just kind of something fun and different to do.”

Hatchett said Hannasch’s main goal is to beat Mickey Kim, the participant in last year’s roof sit in. Kim had a goal of $100,000 last year, but Hannasch wants to beat that with $106,000 raised.

“So Brian Hannasch got connected with Turning Point because of Mickey Kim,” Hatchett said. “So Mickey Kim has been a long time supporter and really good friends with Brian Hannasch, and so last year at the roof sit, Mickey passed it to Brian and now Brian is doing it for us.”

Everyone else can get in on the fun too with a barbecue lunch and a pizza dinner throughout the day. Live music from the Dude Daddies band will perform from 5 to 8 p.m., and beer from Hog Molly Brewing Co. will be served beginning at 5 p.m. Family friendly activities including cornhole, sidewalk chalk and yard games will be available during the day.

A donation link has been set up on Turning Point’s website. People can donate beforehand or on the day of. All funds raised during the event go directly to Turning Point’s programming and the families they serve, Hatchett said.

“It’s a really fun event, it’s a good way to get people out into the community and then also spread that awareness,” Hatchett said.
