SEYMOUR — Families are invited to the Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge near Seymour from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 13 for a family fishing day and dedication of the Lake Linda fishing pier hosted by Muscatatuck Wildlife Society.

Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. at the visitor center, where the society will have rods and reels to lend along with free bait donated by Premier Farm and Pet.

Starting at 8 a.m. at the Discovery Pond, designated for young anglers only, there will be a fishing contest for anglers 15 and under, with a prize awarded for the biggest fish caught by weight.

At 10 a.m., everyone is invited to Lake Linda for the ribbon-cutting and dedication of the new fishing pier. Funded by a grant from the Jackson County Visitor Center and funds raised by the society, the pier is ADA accessible. Following the ribbon cutting, kids may win fishing rods and reels donated by the Richart family in memory of Allison Richart. Lake Linda is open all day for fishing.

At the visitor center, there will be free children’s activities including bandanna decorating, Japanese fish painting and clothespin casting contest, along with lots of door prizes and giveaways. There also will be a free lunch of hot dogs and chips for all participants. Exhibits and the bookstore and gift shop in the visitor center also will be open.

State and federal fishing regulations will apply to the day’s fishing activities.
