MALE

Joseph Day // Columbus North sophomore cross-country runner

Day won the boys race in a dual meet against Columbus East, then won Saturday’s Franklin Invitational to lead the Bull Dogs to a runner-up team finish.

His performance last week: “With the East race, I’m really happy with myself because the team won, and I ran a PR. The Saturday race, I kind of surprised myself with another PR. I think it just speaks to the team culture.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I’l try to stretch a lot more and eat better. I’ll psyche myself up just so I don’t get scared on the line and freak out.”

Favorite drink: “I drink a lot of water, but it would have to be A&W Root Beer.”

Favorite food: “Anything seafood or pasta”

Favorite class: “Graphic Design and Human Body Systems”

Favorite sports team: “I’ve been an Indiana Hoosiers fan since I was a little kid.”

Favorite athlete: “(Olympic gold medalist) Cole Hocker”

Role model: “My friends on the team, Sam Steinmetz and Leyton Hottell, and also my parents (Andy and Jennifer Day) and my coaches.”

Best advice: “Just be persistent with everything you do and work your best every day.’’

Athletics goal: “Teamwise, our goal is to win state. Personally, I just want to keep dropping time and see how well I can do this year.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Either Bali or a small village in Europe somewhere. The views are awesome.”

Rachel Fulp // Columbus North junior soccer player

Rachel Fulp

Fulp had an assist in an 8-0 win against Columbus East and led the Bull Dogs with four goals in Saturday’s 8-0 victory at Floyd Central.

Her performance last week: “I’ve been looking to find the back of the net the last few games, so it was nice to finally be able to do that. I wouldn’t be able to do that without my teammates. They get me good balls in good spots. Our team has played really well these last few games.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I usually just listen to music an think about what I want to do during the game and how I can meet my goals.”

Favorite drink: “Lemonade”

Favorite food: “Mac and cheese”

Favorite class: “My dental class at East”

Favorite sports team: “US Women’s National soccer team and Indiana University basketball”

Favorite athlete: “Mallory Swanson”

Role model: “My mom (Carrie Fulp)”

Best advice: “Always give your best in everything you do.’”

Athletics goal: “I want to win sectional in October.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Costa Rica, because I heard the beaches are really pretty, and also, there’s a lot of animals there.”
