Obituary for Harold “Van” Lofgreen
Harold “Van” Lofgreen was called home by his Heavenly Father on August 30, 2025. Van was born in Bell, California, March 17, 1938, to Harold E. and Adah Loree Lee Lofgreen. He was welcomed by sisters, Becky (Tower) and Kay (Twogood) and brother Ted.
While on assignment in Kodiak, AK, he met and married his wife, Jane Fearn. They have been married 66 years. The marriage was solemnized for time and all eternity in the Los Angeles Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They are parents to four children. Edith Lyn (deceased), Sara Lofgreen, Susan (Doyle) Myers, and James (Lisa) Lofgreen. During their marriage they were privileged to have lived in many different locations. He retired from the U.S. Government Civil Service division, Finance Center in Indianapolis, IN.
Van grew up in Riverside, California. He attended Riverside schools and was active in ROTC. He attended San Louis Obispo College before joining the Coast Guard for four years. Upon leaving the Coast Guard he pursued two undergraduate degrees from Brigham Young University, Provo, UT and obtained his MBA from Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY. Van was a skilled worker and was duly recognized for his accomplishments. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed the time he got to spend with his son and friends on the golf course. He always prioritized his Christian faith and family. He leaves an honorable legacy.
Surviving with his wife and children are 12 grandchildren, Steele (Lauren) Myers, Olivia (Adam) Myers, Claire (Daniel) Carlson, Raechel (Quinn) Parret, Cache (Reagan) Myers, Ridge Myers, Reid Myers, Lyla Myers, Justin Owens, Nathan Owens, Jacob (Haleigh) Lofgreen, Chelsea (Malcolm) Dardy, and 17 great grandchildren. He was proud of his family and worked hard to provide for and set an example for them.
Van will have an open casket visitation Friday, Sept 5, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with the graveside service to follow at 11:30 a.m. in the Vernon Cemetery, 315 S Pike St, Vernon, IN. Funeral arrangements are coordinated with Dove-Sharp Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon, IN.
