Correction
Because of a Republic error, incorrect information about the Sept. 14’s Broadway Memories concert was included in a story Wednesday. The Broadway Memories concert is a family friendly event that anyone can attend. A VIP party held after the concert is a 21 and over event.
Tickets can still be purchased for the concert at onthestage.tickets/show/sandis-closet-inc/. All proceeds from the concert go towards the Sandi’s Closet, Inc. charity.
ORIGINAL STORY
Five stars from some of Broadway’s biggest shows are set to take to the Columbus North High School Erne Auditorium stage Sunday as Broadway Memories makes its grand return.
Kissy Simmons of “The Lion King,” Ta-Tynisa Wilson of “Hamilton,” Todd Buonopane of “Cinderella,” Alan H. Green of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and Judy McLane of “Mamma-Mia” will collaborate at the concert.
Tickets are available at onthestage.tickets/sandis-closet-inc. Ticket prices vary from $30 to $50 depending on seating. An opportunity to purchase VIP tickets with access to an after party is also available when purchasing tickets. Broadway Memories is a age 21 and older event.
Produced by Stephen DeAngelis of New York, Broadway Memories had its first show in 2018 and a follow up show in 2019 before stopping because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Its first year raised more than $30,000 for Our Hospice of South Central Indiana’s Music and Memory program.
Proceeds from this year’s Broadway Memories show will go towards Sandi’s Closet, Inc, a charity that provides shopping experiences for people living with dementia, and Sandi’s Closet Singers, a dementia inclusive choir. Jill Tasker, the founder of Sandi’s Closet, Inc, is a former actor and longtime friend of DeAngelis, and it was that collaboration that brought Broadway Memories to Columbus.
“We brought it back in October of 2021, but that was at the Brown County Music Center and that was for the Music and Memory program to get that for Thrive Alliance,” Tasker said. “So this is the first time it’s back in Columbus since 2019 and the first time that the concert is to benefit the charity Sandi’s Closet.”
Audience members can look forward to songs from these stars’ popular shows, as well as sing-alongs and duets between them.
“… they’re going to be singing songs from ‘Hamilton,’ ‘Chicago,’ ‘Gypsy,’ ‘Lion King,’ ‘Dreamgirls,’ ‘Dear Evan Hansen,’ ‘Hadestown,’ just a huge variety,” “One of the actors, (Todd Buonopane), he usually plays the sidekick and he’s going to sing ‘Mr. Cellophane’ from ‘Chicago,’ which is one of the greatest numbers of all time.”
