City commemorates 9/11 in ceremony this morning

The city of Columbus will commemorate the 24th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

A remembrance ceremony will be at 8:30 a.m. today on the Columbus City Hall Plaza, 123 Washington St. The event is open to the public.

The ceremony includes a moment of silence, offering a time for reflection and honoring the memory of those who perished during the tragic events. Following this, a special dispatch broadcast will pay tribute first responders and citizens who lost their lives at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and aboard United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Nearly 3,000 individuals lost their lives in the attacks.

The Columbus Police and Fire Color Guard will participate in the ceremony.

Also, officials from the Columbus Fire Department will deliver remarks. A Fire Service bell ceremony is also planned, a time-honored tradition that will serve to further honor the memory of those who have given their lives in the line of duty. The ceremony is expected to last approximately 30 minutes.
