Harvey McComas

Harvey McComas, 94, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025, in Butlerville, Indiana. Born on December 23, 1930, in Willow Wood, Ohio, Harvey lived a long and full life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and a deep sense of faith.

Harvey was the son of John McComas and Pluma Collins. He grew up in Ohio and began his working life in the mines during his youth. As he matured, he transitioned into building before ultimately finding his calling as a mechanic He spent the majority of his career at Bill Dunfee’s Chevrolet, where he became known for his skill and dedication. Harvey retired at the age of 62 after many years of service.

A proud Army veteran, Harvey service his country during the Korean War. His time in the military instilled in him a strong sense of discipline and patriotism that remained with him throughout his life.

Harvey was a man of many interests. He enjoyed golf and bowling and was an enthusiastic Euchre player. Racing brought him excitement over the years, and for a time he found great joy in restoring vehicles. A devoted fan of “the Duke,” Harvey loved watching John Wayne films and collecting related memorabilia. He also dabbled in coin collecting and could often be found tinkering with lawn tractors-always finding something to fix or improve.

Above all else, Harvey cherished his role as a father and grandfather. He is survived by his children: John McComas; Katie (Don) Leist; Fred Davis: and Tommy (Lu) Bailey. His legacy continues through eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews who held him dear.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Louise Daniels; and two beloved daughters, Sharon “Sug” McComas and Vickie Jo Davis.

Faith played a central role in Harvey’s life. He was a faithful man whose love of God was matched only by his devotion to family. Those who knew him will remember not only his mechanical talents but also his unwavering loyalty and quiet strength.

In accordance with his wishes, Harvey will be cremated and laid to rest with family in Ohio. A Celebration of Life will be held at that time to honor the memory of this remarkable man.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Harvey will be dearly missed by family and friends until they meet again.
