NASHVILLE — Brown County took its first lead of the game with about 5 minutes left in the game, but South Decatur drove for the winning a score with about a minute remaining and intercepted a pass at their own goal line as time expired to preserve a 26-20 Mid-Indiana Football Conference victory.
The Cougars led 18-12 at halftime. The Eagles took a 20-18 lead on a Quentin Bell touchdown pass and 2-point conversion.
South Decatur then drove for a touchdown run by Jayden Jackson-Ray. Bell then drove Brown County to the 3-yard line with 3 seconds left, but Jackson-Ray intercepted a pass as time expired.
“Our guys showed a lot of grit and determination and drove it down in scored,” South Decatur coach Rodney Martin said. “Then, our guys held on there on defense.”
Jackson-Ray ran for all four Cougar touchdowns and had two interceptions. Quarterback Ryker Martin ran for a 2-point conversion, Dalton Smith had an interception and Elan Phelps blocked a punt for South Decatur (2-3, 2-0).
Bell threw three touchdown passes to lead the Eagles (1-4, 0-2).
